Access to "Soils and Foundations" Japanese Geotechnical Society

Special Issue on Geotechnical Aspects of the 2011 off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake, published in 2012, Soil and Foundations Journal is available for free, to public.

Shigeki Unjoh, in his paper "Effect of earthquake ground motions on soil liquefaction" discusses the effect of the duration and the number of cyclic loadings of the strong motions on the progress of the soil liquefaction.

I am very much impressed by the swiftness of Japanese Geotechnical Society in its course of action since the earthquake shook Sanriku Coast on March 11th.

Here is a timeline of their activities:
  • March 11 : Set up a headquarters for disaster measures
  • March 18 : Announced geo-disaster policy and special section on its website
  • May 24 : Special session in ISSMGE regional conference
  • July 1 : Draft on preliminary recommendations
